§ 22-27. Combat automobile theft.

  • (a)

    To enroll in the "combat automobile theft" program, a motor vehicle owner shall sign a consent form supplied by the police department and shall pay a fee in accordance with subsection (b) below. Once the consent form and fee are received by the police department, the department shall issue a serialized, bright yellow decal which shall be placed by the motor vehicle owner in the bottom left corner of the back window of the vehicle. Any vehicle displaying such a yellow decal may be stopped by a police officer when it is being driver between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

    (b)

    In order to provide for the cost of administering the program, the cost of the yellow decal shall be three dollars ($3.00).

    (c)

    The owner of a motor vehicle enrolled in the program shall notify the police department when terminating participation in the program or transferring ownership of the vehicle and thereafter shall remove the yellow decal from the vehicle.
